In this month’s issue . . .
Welcome to the November/December issue of The Language Teacher. We hope to see many of you very soon at the JALT2023 International Conference in Tsukuba in just a few short weeks.
In the meantime, to get everyone in the conference-going spirit, following our September/October Preconference Issue, we are happy to bring you a small taste of JALT2022, with four selected papers from the most recent JALT Postconference Publication (PCP), which can be viewed or downloaded in full from the JALT Publications website: https://jalt-publications.org/proceedings/issues/2023-08_2022.1
Unlike past Taste of JALT special issues, which included merely condensed versions of the works they featured, here we present repolished versions of the entire, original papers. The first piece is from Howard Brown, who examines the recruiting trends over the past two decades for English-medium instruction (EMI) positions in Japanese higher education as evidenced by job posts on the JREC-IN Portal. The second paper is from Anthony M. Diaz, who highlights the teaching implications of comparative acoustic analyses of L1 English speakers’ and Japanese L2 English speakers’ English pronunciation. The third paper is from Akiko Kano, Timothy Gould, and Atsuko Nakazawa, who investigate the shifting roles and responsibilities of homeroom teachers (HRTs) and assistant language teachers (ALTs) since the recent introduction of specialized English teachers (SETs) in Japanese elementary school classrooms. The fourth and final paper is from Osaze Cuomo, who demonstrates the use of sentiment analysis with a theme-based language corpus derived from the online forum Reddit.
As usual, this issue also includes two interviews: one with Yilin Sun by Gordon Carlson and another with Karen Hill Anton by Michael Ellis. Please be sure to check out our many regular JALT Praxis columns as well.

それまでの間、September/October Preconference Issueに続き、皆様に大会への出席を望む気分になっていただきたく、JALT2022の余韻が感じられる最新のJALT Postconference Publication (PCP) から４編の論文をご用意いたしました。これらは全文をJALT Publications website: https://jalt-publications.org/proceedings/issues/2023-08_2022.1 から読むこともダウンロードすることも可能です。
過去のJALT特別号では特集する論文は凝縮版だったのですが、本号ではオリジナルの論文全文の改訂版を掲載しています。最初の論文はHoward Brownによるもので、過去20年におよぶ日本の高等教育における英語指導職の採用傾向に関して、JREC-IN Portal に掲載されたものをエビデンスとして調査を行っています。次の論文はAnthony M. Diazによるもので、英語母語話者と英語が第二言語である日本人の発音に対して行った、比較音響解析の教育的意義に注目しています。3番目の論文はAkiko Kano, Timothy Gould, and Atsuko Nakazawaによるもので、近年、小学校に英語専科教員が導入されて以降の担任とALT (Assistant Language Teacher) の役割およびその責任の推移に関しての調査をしたものです。そして4番目の論文はOsaze Cuomoによるもので、著者はオンライン・フォーラムRedditを基にしたテーマベースのコーパスに対する感情分析の使用を実証しています。
