In this month’s issue . . .
Welcome to the July/August 2020 issue of The Language Teacher! Over the past several months, the COVID-19 global pandemic has reshaped the face of education around the globe. Educators and students across Japan underwent large-scale changes in the delivery and experience of formal education. I am sure that educators in JALT have been faced with some professional challenges, and many of you have also unearthed some new knowledge and skills about online learning. As we move into the summer, I wish that you and your family remain healthy, and that it can be both a period of rest and reflection, and a catalyst for inquiry and professional development.
In this issue, we begin with two articles. Our Featured Article by Ronald Schmidt-Fajlik looks at what kind of impact practices of mindfulness may have on extensive reading. In this final issue of the Selected Paper series we bring you a paper by Kevin Tang and Kent Jones originally published as a Selected Paper of the JALT2018 Postconference Publication, Diversity and Inclusion. In it they report on a study that looks at teacher and student beliefs on written feedback.

The Language Teacher 2020年7月/8月号へようこそ！この数か月にわたり、新型コロナウイルスの地球規模のパンデミックは、世界中の教育の外観を作り替えました。日本中の教育者と生徒たちは、公教育の伝達や体験において大規模な変化を経験しました。JALTの教育者たちも職業上の課題に直面するとともに、多くの方がオンライン学習に関する新たな知識やスキルを発掘されたことと確信しています。季節が夏に移りましたが、皆様とご家族が健康でありますよう、またこの夏が休息と省察、そして探求と職業的な発展を促す季節となりますよう祈っています。
本号は2本の論文で始まります。Ronald Fajlik-SchmidtによるFeatured Articleは、マインドフルネスの実践が多読にどのような影響を及ぼし得るのか調査しています。Selected Paperシリーズにおけるこの最後の号では、もともとJALT2018のPostconference Publication, Diversity and InclusionでSelected Paperとして発表された、Kevin TangとKent Jonesによる論文をお届けします。本論文で著者は、文字によるフィードバックについての教師と学生の考えに関する研究について報告しています。
