Suito Kokusai is a flagship school in Japan under the Prime Minister's Cabinet Office. Our mission is to usher in new public secondary education. 1/3 of our faculty are int'l teachers for a variety of subjects. We are seeking 2 math teachers.

We’d like to hire someone to start as soon as possible, but the start date is flexible. Our new academic year begins April 1, 2025.

SALARY & BENEFITS
Our school offers competitive salary and benefits, exceeding 400,000 JPY per month and an annual travel allowance. Details will be provided upon job offer. Contracts are renewable without a predetermined end date.

(IMPORTANT)
TO QUALIFY FOR A SPECIAL LICENSE TO TEACH IN AN OSAKA PREFECTURAL PUBLIC SCHOOL, SUCH AS OURS, APPLICANTS MUST MEET THESE GOVERNMENT REQUIREMENTS:
-Your citizenship must be from a country where English is one of the official languages OR you must have graduated from a university where English was used as the language of instruction
-Advanced English language proficiency (able to score at or above 100 TOEFL iBT out of 120)
-Have a valid, government-issued teaching license from a country outside of Japan that allows for the teaching of mathematics in secondary school
-University degree in mathematics or related discipline
-At least 3 years full-time experience teaching in public or private secondary schools as an mathematics teacher

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Mental and physical fitness to adequately and consistently perform job responsibilities
-No history with child protection issues

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
-Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Degree (or equivalent master’s degree)
-Master’s degree or higher specializing in mathematics or education
-Experience with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)
-Experience with progressive education / 21st century teaching and learning practices
-Japanese language proficiency

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
-Teach classes
-Use teaching approaches that focus on active learning
-Develop materials for classes and share these with colleagues as part of the ongoing development of the program
-Use technology to promote learning
-Carry out assessment as per the assessment model developed by the school
-Support programs that increase students’ motivation to learn
-Participate in school committees and/or homeroom teacher teams
-Contribute to progressive school-wide projects and events

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
-Demonstrate a strong commitment to effective teaching practice, including a blend of concept-based instruction and active, student-centred learning
-Be open to having his/her classes observed by department colleagues, other specialists and visitors
-Be open to co-teaching when this supports learning needs
-Be receptive to professional feedback
-Have a flexible mindset and be able to respond constructively to cultural differences

Osaka Prefectural Suito Kokusai Junior & Senior High School is located in the Sakishima area of Osaka, Japan. The school opened April 2019. It is an Osaka prefectural public school that is operated by Osaka YMCA Educational Foundation, a not-for-profit organization. All staff at the school are employees of Osaka YMCA. Osaka YMCA is responsible for all matters of running the school. It is the first time in Japan’s education history to have a public school like this. Suito Kokusai is a Japanese-English bilingual school with an international education focus. The school will reach its maximum enrollment of 720 students in 2024. Approximately 70% of the teachers are local hires and 30% are foreign hires. It is intended that Suito Kokusai be a model school for other public schools throughout Osaka by offering progressive education.
