Music or art teacher (immersion lesson) for a private junior high school in Tokyo.

EST is currently accepting applications from native English-level speakers with teaching experience in Japanese schools for a position at a private junior high school in Tokyo (within the 23 wards, in the east part of Tokyo). The position will begin in April 2025.

Job details: 

EST is currently accepting applications from native English-level speakers who have experience teaching music and art in English.

The basic roles include:
- Teaching music or art lessons in English.
- Team teaching. In some cases, you will be the lead teacher, depending on the school’s syllabus.
- Creating innovative and engaging lesson plans.
- Creating and grading examinations and other assessments.
- Active involvement in wider school life through English clubs and speech contests, etc.
- Attending events to promote and support the assigned school such as open campuses and school festivals. (These events may occasionally fall on weekends/national holidays)
- Keeping up to date with and submitting paperwork.
- Other work-related duties.

As well as meeting the following requirements:
- Native English-level proficiency
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Experience teaching English at junior and senior high schools in Japan.
- Basic knowledge of teaching music or art at the junior high school level.
- Currently residing in the Tokyo area and in possession of a valid visa that allows you to work in Japan.
- Must be in good physical and mental health.

Our ideal candidate will also:
- Be creative and flexible.
- Be an excellent team player.
- Be willing to try new ideas.
- Have an excellent knowledge of English spelling and grammar and strong proofreading skills.
- Have a good understanding of the Japanese school system.
- Have a teaching certificate (TEFL, TESOL, CELTA etc.)
- Be reliable and punctual.

=Working Condition=
Contract:
- One-year contract starting from April 2025, with the possibility of renewal subject to mutual agreement.

Schedule:
- The position involves teaching 4 music classes and/or 4 art classes per week. These classes will be scheduled between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM.
- If you are interested in additional working hours/days, there is a good chance that extra junior high and/or senior high English classes may be added to your schedule.
- Occasional weekend work may be required for school events, such as entrance exam interviews and other related duties.

Remuneration:
- For each subject, a monthly salary of 48,000 yen will be provided, with transportation costs reimbursed.
* The salary remains fixed, regardless of the number of lessons taught each month, and will not fluctuate even if lessons are canceled due to school events, etc.
- Transportation to the assigned school will be reimbursed.
- The contract period will be until end of March 2026 with the potential to renew, with generous paid vacations in summer, winter and spring.
