Linden Hall High School is a private junior and senior high school near Fukuoka, seeking a full-time teacher for English and Social Studies classes (in English) to start from January 2025.
Linden Hall High School is an Article 1, private junior and senior high school which has an English immersion programme. We are currently looking for a full-time teacher to join our multi-national staff, and who will teach English and Social Studies classes (in English) to junior high school students who will be taking the International Baccalaureate Diploma in their final two years of high school. This is not an ALT position. Candidates should ideally hold a teaching license from their home country. We would prefer candidates to have an understanding of the International Baccalaureate but will consider other equivalent experience since the relevant training can be provided for the selected candidate. Ideally, candidates would be able to start work in January 2025.
Visa sponsorship is available, however, priority will be given to candidates who are applying from within Japan.
Japanese ability is a plus, but not essential.
Qualifications/Requirements
* Native-level English proficiency
* Bachelor's degree or higher in a related subject
* Possession of an accredited secondary education teaching license (or a degree in education)
Preferences
* Experience of teaching the specialized subject (and/or experience teaching classes related to the specialized subject) at an accredited school or international teaching institution.
* Experience and/or understanding of and a strong interest in the IB.
* Experience of teaching English and/or in English to second language learners.
Conditions and Duties
Working Hours: 7:50am - 5:30pm, Monday to Friday (of which approximately 20 hours are teaching hours).
* The teacher will also work on curriculum development, lesson planning, test-writing and grading which will prepare students for their future IB Diploma studies.
* The teacher will be an assistant homeroom teacher for one of the homeroom classes (a Japanese teacher will be the main homeroom teacher).
* The teacher will help students to prepare for various English Language tests such as IELTS or TOEFL and for English speech contests or presentations if necessary.
* The teacher will occasionally participate in school events such as Open School or Summer Camp to help to promote the school.

Saturdays (with the occasional exception for school events such as Open days or Sports Day, for which a day off will be given in lieu)

Year end and New Year holidays
Summer vacation (although the teacher may be asked to work for the school's Summer Camp or IB Intensive week which falls at the end of July).
Any other days that the school designates to be a day off. In addition, after the first 6 months, teachers are eligible for 10 days annual paid leave.
Salary and Benefits
Approximately 370,000 yen per month (4.5M yen annually). Social health insurance and pension included. Monthly travel expenses will be paid.
The contract is initially for one year; however, we are seeking candidates who wish to stay with the school long-term and do not restrict the number of years that the contract can be renewed.

3. There will be a preliminary interview (in person or remote) with the IBDP Coordinator and current subject teachers. This interview will also include a discussion of the lesson plan.
4. Shortlisted candidates will have a follow-up interview (in person or remote) with relevant stakeholders including the school Principal.
5. Tentative offers will be made to successful candidates which will be finalized upon reference checks and proof of no criminal background.
