Full-time, Non-tenured Lecturer of English (Shujitsu University (Department of Practical English), Okayama

The Department of Practical English at Shujitsu University, Okayama, is seeking qualified applicants for the following position:

(1) Non-tenured full-time lecturer (one-year contract, renewable every year, after evaluation, up to 4 years, and after a more rigorous evaluation, possibly renewable beyond the fifth year).
(2) The position will begin April 1, 2025.
(3) The salary is based on the Shujitsu University salary table for teaching staff. There is also a salary increase upon contract renewal. An extra teaching allowance will be paid if regular teaching hours exceed the contractually required weekly average of 9 classes (18 hours) a week. Benefits include two bonuses (one-half of the usual amount for regular employees) and research funds (200,000 yen per year). Furthermore, housing and commuting allowances will be provided in accordance with the regulations and standards established by Shujitsu University.

General Responsibilities:
(1) Teach nine 90-minute lessons (English communication, writing, extensive reading, etc.) per week.
(2) Keep weekly office hours.
(3) Attend curriculum development meetings several times per semester.
(4) Attend special events (e.g. entrance and graduation ceremonies, Open Campus, English events as well as special activities organized by the Department of Practical English).
(5) This position does not require participation in faculty / department meetings or committee work.

Qualifications:
(1) Applicant must be highly proficient in English.
(2) M.A. in TESL / TEFL / TESOL, Applied Linguistics or related fields preferred, although applicants in an M.A. program or with equivalent experience or academic achievements will be considered.
(3) Experience teaching English communication and writing to university students. Other forms of teaching experience will also be considered.
(4) Basic Japanese conversation skills desirable.
(5) Willingness to teach and conduct research according to the founding spirit of Shujitsu University.
(6) Applicant must be willing to move to Okayama City or a nearby community.
