Welcome to our first issue for the 1997 academic year. In this issue we regret to announce that Bill Lee has stepped down from the position of TLT assistant editor. Bill contributed greatly to the production of TLT over the last two years. Readers will be aware that Bill is a former editor of chapter meetings, chapter reports and the conference calendar. He organized two employment forums in 1996, and edited and proofread a number of our feature articles.
Recent additions to the TLT staff include Shiotsu Toshihiko (chapter reports co-editor), Malcolm Swanson (chapter meetings co-editor), Oda Masaki (book review co-editor), Lisa Hodgkinson and Angela Ota (publishers' review copies liaisons), Takeuchi Tomomi (JALT news co-editor), Kakutani Tomoko (conference calendar co-editor), Kotori Chiaki (JIC column co-editor), Ishikawa Shin'ichiro, Ishikawa Yuka and Tashiro Hitomi (translation), Sugino Toshiko and Sharon Vaipae (proofreading). A belated welcome to all these TLT staffers who work so hard to ensure that the production of TLT continues to proceed smoothly. Readers who are interested in joining the staff of TLT are warmly invited to submit an application to us in accordance with the TLT Recruitment Policy which appears on page four.
I will step down as TLT editor after the publication of next month's issue -- a special issue on the subject of Extensive Reading. Steve McGuire will take over editing duties with the June issue. Thank you to all those people who have helped me so much over this last year.
