Description:
A one-day Training, followed by a half-day Certification session to enable experienced and qualified teachers to become Speaking Examiners (SEs). This workshop will cover the speaking tests for two levels of Cambridge English; KET (A2), PET (B1). The training and certification are free but the travel and accommodation cost should be covered by applicants.

Minimum Professional Requirements

NB. An applicant can be exempt either from the formal teaching qualification or from the first degree/equivalent requirement (but not both) if they have considerable relevant teaching experience. References to support this experience may be requested.

Overview of the recruitment process for new Speaking Examiners
In order to become a Cambridge English SE, an applicant must successfully complete the following stages of recruitment process:
1. Application form approval
Application forms are assessed against the Minimum Professional Requirements. Those who do not meet the minimum requirements cannot be accepted.
2. Interview by telephone
The Centre Exam Manager and the Team Leader (TL) interview the applicants and, where needed, the TL conducts a language proficiency check.
3. Induction
The applicants work through the self-access online induction materials, which cover the responsibilities of being a Speaking Examiner and the format and levels of the tests.
4. Training
Training is conducted by the TL and covers how to rate and deliver the Speaking test. The TL assesses the applicants during session to ensure they meet the requirements for a SE.
5. Certification
The applicants must complete certification for each exam level they will examine and their performance must be certified by the TL to become a SE.
6. Approval by Cambridge English
Cambridge English may reject any nomination which does not clearly meet the requirements, and their decision is final.

“Shokutaku” Full-Time English Language Instructors (SFELI) at Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto / Shiga / Osaka (8/22)

1. Job Description / Responsibilities
(1) Each SFELI will teach an average of ten credit-hours (koma) per week per semester (one credit-hour is 90 minutes).
(2) SFELI will also be asked to perform various duties related to education at our institution.
(3) SFELI may be invited to teach additional classes at the Center for Language Acquisition (CLA) at Ritsumeikan University for additional remuneration. Intensive classes during summer and spring vacations may be offered.

2. Qualifications for Employment
(1) Candidates must be capable of teaching English as a foreign language.
(2) Candidates must have at least a master's degree at the time of application, with a relevant research field in an area such as the following: TESL/TEFL/TESOL, Applied Linguistics (including CALL and other language education technologies, testing, etc.), Linguistics, Intercultural Communication, and Area Studies.
(3) Candidates must have experience teaching non-native students of English.
It may be desirable for candidates to have experience teaching CALL, CLIL, remedial classes for learners with limited English language proficiency, and/or TOEFL/TOEIC preparation courses.
(4) It would be desirable for candidates to have obtained their qualifying degree within ten years of applying for the SFELI position.
(5) A level of Japanese language proficiency which enables them to communicate effectively in classes in Japanese if necessary and to handle daily administrative affairs will be required.
*Those who have an employment contract with the Ritsumeikan Trust in the academic year 2017 are unable to apply.

*Medical Insurance: SFELIs are required to join the Mutual Aid Association of Private School Personnel (Shigaku Kyosai) during the term of their employment at Ritsumeikan University. Please be advised that all SFFLIs are required to join the Shigaku Kyosai pension scheme as well, and that fees for both the pension and health insurance plans will be deducted from the SFELI’s salary each month.
