This is a new section which we intend to be a forum for constructive
comment on issues raised by articles which appear in JAL T Journal. If
you wish to contribute comments, however short, please write to the
editors.

The use in ELT of the terms "native speaker" and "nonnative
speaker" needs to be rethought. The author argues
that the model for learners is the native teacher communicating
in the target language. The role of the foreign teacher
is to support that model in classroom interaction.
