JCMU is looking for a part-time instructor who can teach approximately five hours of English community classes to adult EFL learners each Saturday starting August 30, 2025.
Program Background
JCMU is administered by the Office of the Dean of International Studies and Programs at Michigan State University (MSU), on behalf of the State of Michigan and its fifteen public universities. JCMU operates in facilities owned by Shiga Prefecture on the shore of Lake Biwa, in the city of Hikone, approximately one hour from Kyoto. The JCMU English language program is administered in collaboration with Shiga Prefecture and offers a range of community English courses for beginner to advanced child and adult learners. Job Details
The successful candidate would be responsible for teaching the following Saturday community English courses:
9:00-10:00 Runway Course (Adult beginner students – CEFR A1 range)
10:10-11:10 English First Steps (Adult elementary students – CEFR A2 range)
11:20-12:20 English Next Steps (Adult pre-intermediate students – CEFR A2-B2 range)
13:30-14:30 English Step Up (Adult intermediate students – CEFR B2 range)
14:40-15:40 Journeys in English (Adult upper-intermediate students – CEFR B2+ range)

Salary and Benefits
Hourly wage: From ¥3,000. The salary amount will be determined based on qualifications.
A commuting allowance for round-trip transportation from your home to JCMU will be provided (up to ¥15,000 per month).
Qualifications and Competencies
- Native English-level proficiency
- Minimum two years’ experience teaching English
- Must currently reside in Japan and be eligible to work there
- Applicants should be energetic, friendly, and patient.
