EST is currently accepting applications from native English-level speakers with teaching experience in Japanese schools for an on-call substitution position.
EST is currently looking for on-call substitute teacher(s) who can start immediately.
The basic role includes:
- Teaching a range of English classes at assigned schools as a substitute teacher
- Basically solo teaching, but there is also the possibility of team teaching
- Grading examinations and other assessments
- Keeping up-to-date with and submitting paperwork
- Other work-related duties
As well as meeting the following requirements:
- Native English-level proficiency
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Experience teaching English at junior and senior high schools in Japan
- Currently residing in the Tokyo area and in possession of a valid visa that allows you to work in Japan
Our ideal candidate will also:
- Be creative and flexible
- Be an excellent team player
- Be willing to try new ideas
- Have an excellent knowledge of English spelling and grammar and strong proofreading skills.
- Have a good understanding of the Japanese school system
- Have a teaching certificate (TEFL, TESOL, CELTA etc.)
- Be reliable and punctual

This is an ad-hoc contract, and we would like to contact you when a substitute teacher is needed.
The compensation is 4,000 yen per lesson, and basically the lessons will be scheduled between 8:30-16:30 on weekdays. We will let you know the exact schedule once the substitution arises.
Please note that this is not a fixed salary; payment will be made based on the actual number of lessons conducted.
