Our monthly publication, The Language Teacher, hosts a column, the Job Information Centre, offering JALT members application details for jobs in Japan and abroad.
To list a position on this website and in the print edition of The Language Teacher, please use the Job Info online submissions form or email the job posting to The Job Information Centre Editor. The notice should contain the following information: prefecture and city, name of institution, title of position, whether it is full- or part-time, qualifications, duties, salary and benefits, application materials, deadline, and contact information.
To list a position in the print edition of The Language Teacher, job postings must be received before the 15th of the month, two months before publication. There is no deadline for website job postings, which will be posted within a week of being received.
All job postings to the Job Information Centre website and column are free of charge.
The editors oppose discriminatory language, policies, and employment practices, in accordance with Japanese and international law. Exclusions or requirements concerning gender, age, race, religion, or country of origin should be avoided in announcements in the JIC Positions column, unless there are legal requirements or other compelling reasons for such discrimination, and these reasons are clearly explained in the job announcement. The editors reserve the right to edit ads for clarity, and to return ads for rewriting if they do not comply with this policy.

Job Details: My name is Ariel Sorensen. I've been teaching graduate TESOL courses since September, 2008 at Pusan University of Foreign studies located in Pusan, South Korea. For the past ten months I have been enjoying my teaching position and my stay in Pusan. The workplace at the university has been comfortable and very intriguing as most of students in my classes are teachers from private and public schools, who are very intelligent and motivated. I am looking for a replacement as I will have to leave Korea for family reasons. QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate for the position should hold a Ph.D. or a masters degree in TESOL, Linguistics, or a closely related field and will be required to teach such graduate-level courses as Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Pedagogical Grammar and Methods in TESOL. HOUSING: The employer will provide furnished rent-free accommodation for your time in Korea, usually close to your place of employment or if not then close to public transportation. You will be expected to pay the utilities such as gas, water, and electricity yourself or with your flatmates. VACATIONS: You will be entitled to all Korean national holidays, and your employer is not allowed to deny you any of these. There usually come to about 13 days per year. In addition you will be given usually about 10 days paid vacation for the duration of your contract. TYPE OF STUDENTS: Students From Kindergarten to Middle school students. Type 1: Elementary - Middle school students : 2pm - 9pm (Your own schedule might start an hour later earlier or later, but it will still be only 7 hours). Job Description: The Society for Testing English Proficiency (STEP) is looking for a full-time editor to help produce EIKEN English examinations for high school level test-takers. STEP is Japan's largest English-language testing organization, and this is an excellent opportunity for a committed individual to further his or her career in education. Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. plus occasional weekends. One-year renewable contract. Starting date negotiable.
Job Details: DUTIES: Duties include writing, editing, and proofreading test items for the EIKEN exams. You will also attend editorial meetings held in Japanese, liaise with writers and academics, and analyze test data. There are some opportunities to take part in conferences and promotional events. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have English as their first language and have a university degree, excellent writing skills, and an interest in education and testing. Successful applicants will also have strong Japanese language skills and be able to work as part of a team in a Japanese office environment. Teaching experience at Japanese junior high or high schools and materials-development experience/editing experience is desirable. Applicants should reside within commuting distance of our office in Kagurazaka, Tokyo. SALARY & BENEFITS: Salary in accordance with STEP regulations. Two annual bonuses and other benefits. The positions run from April to mid-June ; July to mid-September ; October to mid-December and January to mid-March.
Job Details: CONTRACT: Applicants must be able to commit to a 3-month contract. The contract will run from the beginning of April 2009 until mid-June 2009. QUALIFICATIONS: We require experienced, native-level English speakers for this position. Previous teaching experience in either Japan or to Japanese students is a must. Ideally candidates should have 2 or more years teaching experience. Teaching qualifications (CELTA/TESOL/BEd/PGCE etc) are preferred but not essential. If you have a passion for teaching, and wish to expand your horizons and teaching skills by working on an intensive language programme at these two government training facilities, then you are the candidate we are looking for. CONDITIONS: Teaching hours are approximately 30 hours per week, with a fixed, regular schedule between the hours of 8.45am and 2.50pm Monday to Saturday. The training programme is an intensive 65-day, 6-day-a-week course. The students are all volunteers with Japanfs overseas development programme. The course is designed to provide students with the tools and confidence to work and interact in their host countries. After the training programme the volunteers will be dispatched overseas for 2 years. Teachers are responsible for creating the course curriculum based on a set syllabus, and then teaching the 210-lesson programme. Teachers also are responsible for the regular testing of the studentsf progress, setting mid and end-of-term exams, homework and self-study tasks. There are on average 6 students per class (a maximum of 8). The focus of the teaching is functional, practical, and communicative. SALARY AND BENEFITS: For these positions, an attractive monthly salary (less national income taxes of approximately 7%) of approximately 330,000 yen, free furnished housing with no moving in costs (utilities not included), reimbursement of commuting expenses, subsidized health insurance, and free Japanese lessons (offered online), are on offer for successful candidates.
