Our monthly publication, The Language Teacher, hosts a column, the Job Information Centre, offering JALT members application details for jobs in Japan and abroad.

To list a position on this website and in the print edition of The Language Teacher, please email the job posting to The Job Information Centre Editor. The notice should contain the following information: prefecture and city, name of institution, title of position, whether it is full- or part-time, qualifications, duties, salary and benefits, application materials, deadline, and contact information. A special form is not necessary.

To list a position in the print edition of The Language Teacher, job postings must be received before the 15th of the month, two months before publication. There is no deadline for website job postings, which will be posted within a week of being received.

Job Description: The School of International Politics, Economics, and Communication at Aoyama Gakuin University's Sagamihara Campus is seeking versatile part-time teachers for the 2009-2010 academic year to teach English courses; communication courses related to public speaking, discussion / debate, English in the mass media, English for academic purposes; and advanced English courses related to specific themes, such as intercultural communication, comparative culture, media studies, gender awareness, conflict resolution / peace studies, global issues, and other subjects related to international studies.

Job Details: Qualifications: Resident of Japan; proper visa if non-Japanese; MA or PhD in relevant areas of the humanities, social sciences, or education (including TEFL/TESOL); three years previous teaching experience at the university level, with at least one year in Japan; ability to teach language, communication, and advanced courses in English; publications and membership in relevant academic associations a plus. Job Description: Momoyama Gakuin University in Izumi City, Osaka, is hiring three full-time EFL instructors for positions beginning April 2009. Positions start with one-year contracts renewable up to three times.

Job Details: DUTIES: Teach ten 90-minute periods/week of EFL (particular courses will vary, but will generally be concerned with developing students' communicative ability); teach intensive courses during the spring and summer vacations if called upon; liaise with other language teachers; prepare teaching materials; hold office hours for students; participate in curriculum development; participate in workshops for faculty members if called upon; and carry out other tasks as required by the Director of the Language Centre. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be native speakers with MA (or equivalent) in TESOL (or closely related subject). CALL skills and interest in curriculum or materials development preferred. Japanese ability is not required, but the successful applicant should be willing to learn. SALARY & BENEFITS: 350,000 yen - 420,000 yen/month; housing subsidy available, paid holidays and health insurance. Job Description: The Society for Testing English Proficiency (STEP) is looking for a full-time editor to help produce EIKEN English examinations for high school level test takers. STEP is Japan's largest English language testing organization, and this is an excellent opportunity for a committed individual to further his or her career in education. Starting date negotiable. Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. plus occasional weekends. One-year renewable contract.

Job Details: DUTIES: Duties include writing, editing, and proofreading test items for the EIKEN exams. You will also attend editorial meetings held in Japanese, liaise with writers and academics, and analyze test data. There are some opportunities to take part in conferences and promotional events around the country. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be native English speakers with a university degree, excellent writing skills, and an interest in education and testing. Successful applicants will also have strong Japanese language skills and be able to work as part of a team in a Japanese office environment. Teaching experience at Japanese junior high or high schools and materials-development experience is desirable. Applicants should reside within commuting distance of our office in Kagurazaka, Tokyo. SALARY & BENEFITS: Salary in accordance with STEP regulations. Two annual bonuses and other benefits. Paid annual vacation leave, overtime pay, and commuting allowance. Job Description: Okayama University's Foreign Language Center is hiring one permanent full-time English teacher (Associate Professor). Background information: The Foreign Language Education Center (FLEC) was founded in 2002 and consists of two sections: English and other foreign languages. The English section has four full-time Japanese teachers and four full-time native-speaking teachers. This section offers general education English classes and some English classes for faculty and graduate courses. Native English classes are taught to all first year students enrolled at Okayama University and also Advanced English courses which are open to all students. FLEC also promotes an e-learning system to supplement the regular lessons.

Job Details: Duties: (1) Teaching a normal load of 6 classes per week (1 class is 90 minutes). (2) Planning, implementing and improving the general education English curriculum. This includes development and research of teaching materials and methodology. (3) Coordinating full-time and part-time English teachers' activities. (4) Participating in meetings and related events. Starting date: April 1, 2009 (or October 1, 2008, if possible) Qualifications: (1) Native fluency in English. (2) Masterfs or higher degree in TEFL/TESL (Teaching of English as a Foreign/Second Language) or a related field. (3) Enthusiasm for language teaching and an ongoing commitment to current language teaching methodologies. University classroom experience as a teacher of English to speakers of other languages is preferable. (4) Experience in promoting e-learning, CALL or IT would be preferred. (5) An adequate command of Japanese to manage daily university work. Salary and Benefits: (1) Annual salary will be determined by the relevant rules of Okayama University as a national university corporation, according to professional experience and qualifications. (2) The travel expenses of the appointee and his/her dependents from the place of departure to Okayama will be reimbursed upon arrival. (3) A research fund is available every academic year. Job Description: Keio SFC Jr. & Sr. High School, the newest secondary school associated with Keio University, is seeking applicants for full-time teaching positions in 2009. Our students go on to Keio University, one of the most competitive private universities in Japan. SFC Jr. & Sr. High School differs from other secondary schools in that more than two-fifths of the students have lived abroad for extended periods. Many of these students already speak English or other languages fluently. The school provides training in computing, language, and intercultural communication in an effort to equip the students for active roles in the global community.

Job Details: Starting Date: April 1, 2009 Salary: Based on age, experience and qualifications Benefits: Commuting allowance, annual book allowance Duties: Same responsibilities as full-time Japanese teacher. Teach up to 19 hrs/week (16 core English classes and 2 electives, 1 homeroom). Work 5 days a week (Sunday and one other day off) and are occasionally asked to come to school on holidays for school events and other duties. Share typical homeroom responsibilities with a Japanese partner, including 1 hr/week supervising homeroom class. Supervise club activities, attend matches as chaperone, etc. Assess students in accordance with school guidelines. Participate and supervise all school events such as school trips, sports days, school festivals, etc. Play an active role in departmental functions such as curriculum development, test writing, coordination of exchange programs, coaching students for speech contests, etc. Qualifications & Requirements: Native-level speaker of English.
