Teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to NCUK International Foundation Year (IFY) and Pre-Master Programme (MPP) students (online as well as face-to-face).

Job details:

We are a study abroad company located in Tokyo that works with the Northern Consortium UK (NCUK) and Kaplan International to deliver International Foundation Year (IFY) and Master’s Preparation Programme (MPP) courses to Japanese nationals.

We are seeking an experienced and qualified English language teacher to lead our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classes for the above courses. The role requires a deep understanding of and expertise in teaching and learning English as a second language, as well as a strong understanding of the academic skills required of university students in the UK.

Most of the EAP lessons are either two or three hours long, and there is no set textbook. The candidate must therefore be creative at lesson design and be able to draw on a range of sources such as EAP textbooks and authentic sources to create engaging and effective lessons.

Our learners’ levels range from CEFR B1 to C1, and the lessons are mostly online except for the IFY course, which is mainly face-to-face. The candidate must therefore be competent at both online and face-to-face delivery modes and live within commuting distance of our centre in Shibuya, Tokyo.

The role also includes one-to-one personal statement consultations and follow-up proofreading, IELTS exam strategy courses, and demo lessons at our promotional events.

While there are busy periods, there is plenty of time for teachers to prepare lessons and work on professional development. Similar to other university programmes, there may be opportunities for teachers to take extended time off outside the peak periods. Since most of the courses are online, teachers can work from home many months of the year. However, due to the nature of this role, teachers are not permitted to undertake other employment while working with us.

We maintain a forward-thinking, open working environment in which teachers are encouraged to develop their own approaches to teaching. While we have high expectations of teaching quality and student outcomes, there is considerable freedom to design lessons, select materials, and experiment with approaches that support effective learning.

Compensation and benefits:

Limited term full-time contract (until the end of this academic year in August 2027) with a high possibility of renewal subject to performance. The renewal contracts will be yearly renewed.

Contract length: 9-month starting from December 2026 until the end of August 2027

Salary: JPY 350,000 per month, including health insurance and pension

Commuting allowance: up to 20,000 yen per month

Five working days: Tuesday to Saturday 9:00 to 18:00 with an hour lunch break

Maximum taught hours per week: 17 hours during the peak time (May - July)
