Tokai University, Shonan Campus (Hiratsuka, Kanagawa) seeks part-time instructors for required (and possibly elective) English courses starting April 2027.
The English Language Section of the Language Education Center at Tokai University, Shonan Campus, seeks part-time instructors for required and elective English courses starting April 2027 (1-year contract, renewable). Tokai University is a large private university with an international student body, offering a wide variety of majors in fields including sciences and engineering, social sciences, arts and humanities, and physical education. Successful candidates will have experience teaching large classes (average class size 30-40) with a wide range of proficiency levels.
DUTIES:
• Teach 6-8 100-minute classes per week. Classes are held in-person on Shonan Campus in Hiratsuka, between 9 am and 5 pm. Most classes meet once per week, with some meeting twice a week (Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday). Individual teaching schedules vary based on class demand and teacher availability.
• Class content: English Communication A & C (speaking/listening focus), English Communication B & D (reading/writing focus), elective and/or repeater classes possible.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree in TESOL, applied linguistics or equivalent.
• 3 years’ experience teaching EFL in Japan at the university level. Experience with specialized classes (ESP/EAP) preferred.
• Record of professional development and contributions to the field (publications and/or presentations) preferred.
• Computer literacy (familiarity with MS Office, MS Teams, Moodle-based LMS) preferred.
• Resident in Japan with valid status of residence.
• Japanese proficiency highly useful for routine administrative tasks.
