A position is available for a full-time, qualified English teacher working as part of a small department of instructors teaching British English to JHS and HS students with between 15 to 20 hours of teaching contact per week.
This position is not that of an “ALT” but is for a teacher who can plan and deliver their own lessons effectively in accordance with associated syllabuses, covering a range of skills and student abilities. In addition to excellent teaching skills, candidates should be flexible, enthusiastic, resourceful and able to work independently whilst also integrating smoothly with the Japanese teaching staff and management. Holiday periods during spring, summer and winter are paid and daily travel costs are reimbursed.
Minimum requirements are having:
• native-English level proficiency
• a university degree
• a recognised teaching qualification (eg. Cambridge CELTA / Trinity College CertTESOL)
• a minimum of two years relevant teaching experience.
The ideal candidates would also:
• have experience of teaching in a Japanese high school
• have experience with syllabus and test creation
• be tech literate with experience of using Word/Excel and Power Point/Google Slides
• be proactive, organised and able to work to deadlines
• be reflective and adaptive with regard to teaching practice
• have some Japanese communication skills
• be well presented and mannered
• be committed to professional development and taking on extra responsibilities.
Working hours: 8am - 5pm Mon-Fri plus some occasional weekend work
Contract: 12 months, September 1st, 2026 to August 31st 2027; contract is renewable
Salary: 3.4 - 4.4 million yen (with a maximum starting salary of 4.0 million yen)
