Part-time (Hijokin) Instructor Position: Rhetoric and Inquiry

The Core Program in the Faculty of Liberal Arts (FLA) at Sophia University invites applications for non-tenured, part-time (hijokin) instructor positions in rhetoric and inquiry, beginning in April 2027. Depending on Program needs, successful applicants may teach one or more courses that develop students' rhetorical awareness and inquiry practices through academic communication in English. Students in this English-medium instruction program have advanced English proficiency.

Each course meets twice a week for 100-minute sessions, either on a Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday schedule. Morning and afternoon sections are available.

The position is renewable on a yearly basis for up to five years. Please note that the maximum years of employment may vary depending on the personnel and curriculum planning of Sophia Corporation. Teaching duties and their locations are subject to change as determined by Sophia School Corporation. Salary and benefits are based on Sophia’s rules and regulations.

Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics, Rhetoric and Composition, TESOL, or a closely related field
• Experience teaching advanced academic literacy courses at the university level
• Relevant research interests
• Familiarity with the FLA and its students (see https://fla.sophia.ac.jp/)
• Non-Japanese citizens must hold a valid visa permitting employment in Japan. Sophia University is unable to sponsor a work visa
