The International French School in Tokyo (lycée français international de Tokyo) seeks full-time specialists in middle school English literature and US social studies (history/geography)
--Full-time teaching position (18 hours per week) English literature and American social studies (history/geography)
--Visa sponsorship available
--Salary commensurate with experience
The teacher will be in charge of middle school classes for the 2026-2027 school year (September-June) and beyond. S/he will design and implement syllabi corresponding to the French national curriculum and will be familiar with classroom management and evaluation/assessment of a diverse student body. Interdepartmental teamwork and collaboration are mandatory.
The ideal candidate will possess:
--US or Canadian secondary teaching certification in ELA, ESL/EFL, history, geography, social studies, or equivalent
--Interest in the French education system
--Experience teaching and living abroad
--Professional responsibility and open-mindedness, an ability to adapt, superior interpersonal skills and a spirit of collaboration
--Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary projects
--Interest in research and professional inquiry
--Appreciation for diversity of learners (differentiated teaching)
--Capacity for reflective analysis and a passion for professional development to improve curriculum planning and design, classroom management, and evaluation/assessment
--Professional work ethic: discretion, respect for different cultures, secularism
Specific requirements:
--Must have native English-level proficiency and/or significant experience/qualifications in the North American education system
--Knowledge of the French SIA/BFI curriculum preferred
--Knowledge of the French DNB and Baccalauréat exams in literature and history/geography preferred
--Some knowledge of French language appreciated, but not required
