Part-time maths teacher for a new International Course at a private high school in Tokyo. This is a challenging but rewarding position, teaching maths in English to junior high school students with low levels of English.
Overview
The position would require 5-10 teaching hours/week, and time is given for materials preparation, meetings, training (as required) and admin. The maths curriculum for this course follows the Japanese Junior High School curriculum, but is taught in English using English language materials.
We will do our best to schedule lessons at days/times to fit your schedule. Some Saturday teaching may be required. The starting date for this position is April 2026.
Initial contract length is one year, and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Payment: starting at JPY 4,500/teaching hour (45 minutes) plus allowances for preparation, meetings/admin. Commuting fees are also paid.

We are a private high school in central Tokyo that launched an international program in April 2024. The course combines the Japanese national curriculum with Cambridge International Lower Secondary, and is aimed at children coming through the regular Japanese elementary school system. The course incorporates a range of progressive teaching methodologies to develop the students’ 21st Century skills.
Together with the members of the project team, you will:
Help to implement an international programme based on the Cambridge International system, MEXT junior High School curriculum, Cambridge ESOL, and CLIL
Ensure your teaching employs cutting-edge educational principles and methodology (regular training will be provided)
Actively participate in relevant training and professional development
Monitor and assess students’ progress and well-being
This is a hugely challenging project, but one that has the potential to be game changing in Japan. As such, we are looking for high-caliber, passionate educators who would like to make meaningful change to education in this country. You will be fully supported throughout by an enthusiastic project team comprised of members of the school board, educators, educational consultants, admin staff, the Head of Programme, and other passionate and committed teachers.
