Toyo Eiwa Primary School, a private, all-girls elementary school in Minato-ku is holding interviews on January 31st for an English teaching position from April 2026. Interested candidates should apply through the form no later than January 20th, as we will review applications on a rolling basis and confirm interview times with qualified applicants as soon as possible. A second interview will be arranged directly with final candidates at a later date.
Along with an interview confirmation, qualified applicants will also receive specifics around the salary and work hours. They will also be asked to showcase their teaching skills during the interview. We will share a number of prompts to choose from in advance so interviewees can prepare accordingly.
Basic Salary and Working Hour Details:
This is a direct-hire position from Monday-Friday, with lessons taught around 5 hours a day. Some lesson planning and preparation will take place outside of teaching hours, but is taken into consideration through the salary. The competitive salary itself is paid every month of the year, including during school holidays. Transportation costs are also reimbursed.
Role and Responsibilities:
Plan and implement engaging lessons in line with the outlined curriculum.
Teach students both independently and in a team-teaching setting depending on the grade level.
Foster student enthusiasm for English learning across ability levels through meaningful teacher-student interaction.
Understand and abide by school rules and regulations.
Understand and abide by the English department’s unique teaching philosophy and best practices.
Proofread student work with meticulous attention to detail around grammar rules, vocabulary usage, and punctuation.
Evaluate student performance in line with curriculum expectations while also taking into account the unique characteristics and experiences of each child.
At the very least, qualified applicants should have:
1-2 years of experience teaching English in Japan, specifically in teaching Japanese children in a large group setting
Native-level English speaking proficiency
Meticulous grasp and appreciation of English grammar
Strong digital literacy skills, especially on an iPad and with Google Drive.
Teaching credentials, licenses and certifications are not required, though they will certainly be taken into consideration if provided. An ideal candidate will also be familiar with Christatinity, as we are a Christian school and incorporate aspects of religion into the English curriculum.
