A private junior and senior high school in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo is seeking an experienced and highly motivated native English-level EFL instructor to join our team and work closely with the English department on curriculum and general educational development.

Full time EFL instructor (direct-hire position)
Candidates must be currently residing in Japan with a proper working visa. A renewable one-year contract will be offered to the successful candidate from April 1, 2025. Salary range is from ¥300,000 to ¥400,000 per month depending on qualifications and experience. A transportation allowance and participation in the Japanese Private School Mutual Aid System for health care and pension benefits are included.

Contract responsibilities
Teaching about 16 classes a week plus departmental responsibilities at a private junior high and senior high.
Working hours: 8:20 - 17:20 Monday to Friday (national holidays off, may be asked to work some weekends for special school events and intensive courses during school holidays)
Coordination of the school clubs.
- Work closely with the English department on curriculum and project development, lesson planning and test writing
- Instruction and coaching for tests:
- Speech contests
- EIKEN
- Cambridge English Assessment
- Homeroom, mentoring and departmental duties

Requirements:
Native-level English speaker. Must be currently living in Japan with a valid working visa. Visa renewal is possible.
- At least two years’ experience teaching at a junior or senior high school in Japan
- ESL / EFL certification such as TESOL / CELTA / DELTA
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification. Other qualifications such as a teaching degree, teacher’s license, would be an asset
- High level of computer literacy skills is necessary (for online learning platforms, classroom management systems, Microsoft Office)
- Conversational Japanese to handle administrative duties (N2 level of Japanese Language Proficiency Test would be an asset)
We are trying to create an immersive all-English atmosphere so teachers will communicate with students in English in and out of class.
