This study examines the effects of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) on the motivation of second-year Japanese non-English major university students in learning English, using self-determination theory as a framework. It investigates how TBLT impacts autonomy, competence, relatedness, intrinsic motivation, identified motivation, external motivation, and amotivation over a 14-week semester. Data were collected through pre- and post-questionnaires administered in the second and twelfth weeks. The study seeks to determine whether TBLT enhances engagement and fosters positive attitudes, particularly among students with low initial motivation. Findings aim to inform pedagogical practices, providing valuable insights into motivation-focused approaches in second language acquisition.
