A substantial body of literature exists extolling the many physiological, psychological, and social benefits that camping and other nature-based social excursions offer participants, including a small but growing number of studies revealing positive outcomes for language learners in these environments. However, there are currently few resources available that detail how to effectively begin offering such experiences to learners in educational organizations where none currently exist. This paper demonstrates how a structured approach to event planning helped create a series of ongoing excursions that are designed to foster intercultural awareness and language learning outside the classroom. It briefly describes the rationale for conducting nature-based excursions, outlines steps taken to ensure sufficient funding and participation, and addresses challenges faced throughout the process including accurate budgeting and effective procurement. Detailed and transparent reporting of these crucial aspects will be of use to professionals who are interested in developing their own programs.
キャンプやその他の自然を利用した社会的な活動が参加者にもたらす生理的、心理的、社会的な利点を主張する数多くの文献がある。その中で、このような環境で言語学習者に肯定的な成果をもたらすことを示す研究も数は少ないが徐々に増えてきている。しかし、こうした活動が行われていない教育機関において、どのように効果的に導入すべきかを具体的に示した文献は現在のところほとんど存在しない。本稿では、イベント企画における体系的なアプローチが、教室外での異文化認識と言語学習を促進するために、一連の活動をどのように実践したかを示す。自然を活用した活動を実施する意義を概説し、十分な資金と参加者の確保のために講じた手順を示す。また、正確な予算管理や効果的な運営基盤の確保を含む実践課程で直面した課題についても考察する。これらの重要な側面に関する詳細かつ透明性の高い報告は、今後同様のプログラム開発を検討する教育関係者にとって有益であろう。
