Submission Preparation Checklist
All submissions must meet the following requirements.
- I confirm that I have obtained institutional ethical approval for this research and informed consent from all participants as appropriate.
- I confirm that this paper is my original work.
- I confirm that this paper has not been published elsewhere and is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.
- I confirm that this paper follows APA 7th edition style.
Feature Articles
English Features. Submissions should be well-written, and well-documented, research articles. Analysis and data can be quantitative or qualitative (or both). Manuscripts are reviewed and evaluated anonymously by members of The Language Teacher Editorial Advisory Board and or Additional Reader team, based on reviewer expertise and interest. Papers are evaluated for degree of scholarly research, relevance, originality of conclusions, etc. Submissions should:

be of relevance to language educators in Japan.

be blinded (made anonymous for review purposes).

be 3,000-4,000 words (not including appendices).

have paragraphs separated by single carriage returns (may be indented), and subheadings (bold, bold-italic, or italic) used throughout for the convenience of readers - not numbered headings.

have a supplementary file, including the article's title, the author's name, affiliation, contact details, and word count at the top of the first page, submitted along with the blinded paper which will NOT be made available to reviewers.

have tables, figures, appendices, etc. included in the main file in the appropriate places, and also attached as supplementary files.

have an English abstract of up to 150 words and translated into Japanese (authors are responsible for providing their own translation of abstracts), in the paper and entered into the Online Journal System (see below). *Abstracts are used by reviewers to determine whether they wish to review the paper.

be accompanied by a 100-word biographical background and photo (as a separate JPEG or PNG image file) - NOT made available to reviewers.

Include the DOI for every reference that has a DOI. Preface the DOI with the appropriate HTML header (e.g., https://doi.org/).

follow APA Guidelines.
Readers' Forum
Readers' Forum articles are thoughtful essays on topics related to language teaching and learning in Japan. Submission do not need to be researched based, but the ideas should be intellectually supported. We cannot publish promotional materials. Submissions should:

be of relevance to language educators in Japan.

be blinded (made anonymous for review purposes).

be between 2,000 and 2,500 words (including title and references).

have paragraphs separated by single carriage returns (may be indented), and subheadings (bold, bold-italic, or italic) used throughout for the convenience of readers - not numbered headings.

Copyright Notice
Agreement between The Language Teacher (Japan Association for Language Teaching) and Author(s) of Material Published in The Language Teacher
I. In consideration of publication by The Language Teacher (the bimonthly journal of the Japan Association for Language Teaching; hereafter "JALT") of material (hereafter "Work") by the Author(s), the following conditions are certified and warranted by the Author(s), that:
(1) The Work in question is an original composition by the Author(s);
(2) The Work in question has not been previously published;
(3) The Work in question is not presently under consideration for publication elsewhere.
II. The Author(s) further agree(s) to the following conditions for the future disposition of the Work being accepted for publication in The Language Teacher (JALT):
(1) The Language Teacher (JALT) has First World Publication Rights, as defined by International Copyright Conventions, to the Work in question;
(2) All statutory rights in the copyright of the Work in question are retained by the Author(s);
(3) JALT reserves the right to reproduce the Work in JALT sponsored publications other than The Language Teacher;
(4) To compensate for publication and other expenses, JALT will retain all proceeds of sale by JALT or other vendors of JALT produced copies of the Work;
(5) The Author(s) may also have the Work reproduced in other publications without notifying JALT, but must ensure the following:
(a) The Work may not appear prior to publication in The Language Teacher;
(b) The reproduced Work must bear the following credit:
"(This article)(A different version of this article) first appeared in The Language Teacher, (volume[issue], date), published by the Japan Association for Language Teaching."
III. The Language Teacher (JALT) certifies and warrants that after publication of the Work, it releases to the Author(s) all rights except those reserved above, and that the Work will be copyrighted by the following legend, to be printed on The Language Teacher's Table of Contents page:
"All materials in this publication are copyright © by their respective authors."
The Language Teacher(全国語学教育学会)とThe Language Teacherに掲載された著作物の著者の取決め
I ___________________________________________________________というタイトルでThe Language Teacher(全国語学教育学会の学術誌、以下「JALT」という)に著者の資料(以下「著作物」という)を出版する際、著者は以下の3点を証明し、保証する:
(1) 当該著作物は著者によるオリジナルであること;
(2) 当該著作物はこれまでに出版されていないこと;
(3) 当該著作物は現在、他の場所で出版を検討中ではないこと。
II 著者は、The Language Teacher(JALT)への出版が承認された著作物の将来の取り扱いについて、以下の条件にさらに同意する:
(1) 当該著作物の国際著作権条約で定義されている世界初出版権を、The Language Teacher(JALT)に付与すること;
(2) 当該著作物の著作権に関するすべての法的権利は、著者が有すること;
(3) JALTは、The Language Teacher以外のJALTが後援する出版物で当該著作物を複製する権利を有すること;
(4) 出版およびその他の費用を償うために、JALTが発行する当該著作物からJALTまたは他の販売業者が得るすべての売上金は、JALTが保有すること;
(5) 著者は、JALTに通知することなく、他の出版物で当該著作物を複製することもできるが、以下を保証する必要があること:
(a) The Language Teacherに掲載されるよりも前に掲載されないこと;
(b) 複製された著作物には、以下の但し書きをつけること:
「(この論文)(この論文の別バージョン)は、全国語学教育学会発行のJALT The Language Teacher(巻 [号]、日付)を初出とする。」
III The Language Teacher(JALT)は、著作物の出版後、上記で保有したものを除くすべての権利を著者に譲渡し、以下の文により、著作物には著作権があることをJALT Journalの目次ページに掲載することを証明し、保証する:
「この刊行物内の全ての資料は、各著者が著作権©を有する。」
