Part-time Lecturer on Literature, Kobe City University of Foreign Studies

KCUFS is seeking one part-time adjunct lecturer to teach three koma on Mondays on Literature with a focus on International Relations and Global Issues. Starting in April 2023.

Job details: 

The Department of International Relations at Kobe City University of Foreign Studies, located near Gakuentoshi station on the Kobe Municipal Subway, is seeking one part-time adjunct lecturer to teach three koma on Mondays related to English language Literature starting in 2023.

Qualifications:
- Have a specialization in literature written in English, either in educational background, published academic work, or work experience (academic or otherwise)
- Have at least two academic publications in the above field within the last 10 years
- Hold a Master's degree or higher, with a focus in Literature or TESOL / Applied Linguistics
- We welcome all applicants from various national, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds

Courses:
1) English Reading for 2nd year Students
Compulsory course for all International Relations students, held both 1st and 2nd periods on Mondays. Both class sizes are 40-45 students. Course lasts for the entire academic year (30 weeks). Teacher will focus on two or more novels, with a focus on how the novel explores topics on Global Issues, International Relations, History, or related themes. Previously taught novels include "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brian and "Animal Farm" by George Orwell, but instructors can choose novels that suit their own teaching preferences.

2) Special Topics in English Literature 1 & 2
Elective course open to all departments, held in the afternoon (period flexible) on Mondays. Class sizes typically 10-15. Course is only semester long but will be held on both spring and fall, but different content should be taught in each. Teacher will focus on a selection of book excerpts, short stories, or poetry which explore a common theme. Previously taught themes include "Asian American Experience", but instructors can choose themes and selected readings that suit their own teaching preferences.
