British Council Project-Based Hourly-Paid University Teacher (Tokyo) (12/5)

The British Council Tokyo Teaching Centre is looking for qualified and experienced teachers to join our offsite teaching teams at Japanese universities from April 2022

 

Job details: 

We are currently recruiting for two projects teaching Academic English at universities in Tokyo. Applicants should state their order of preference as part of their personal statement when applying online (‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘either’). 

Please note that post holders will be paid by the teaching hour, and during semester time only. In addition, post holders are eligible for a project-completion bonus (see below). 

A) April 2022 to July 2022, Central Tokyo: you will teach 15 hours per week (weekdays only) over one 15-week semester. You are also required to do up to one week of administrative work per semester. 

B) April 2022 to January 2023, Western Tokyo: you will teach 17.5 hours per week (weekdays only) over two 13-week semesters. You are also required to do up to one week of administrative work per semester. You will not be required to teach during the summer break between semesters (late July to early September).

These roles are only open to applicants who currently have permission to live and work in Japan. Please note that if your current working visa is under the ‘Other’ category (e.g. professor, Instructor, Artist) you will need to apply for a new visa under the category (Engineer / Specialist in humanities / International services). 

Hourly-paid scale:

4,400 yen/hour for teachers with a CELTA 
4,900 yen/hour for teachers with a DELTA

- Payment for preparation for lessons and marking is included in the hourly rate and will not be paid separately. 
- In addition, you will receive a project-completion bonus equivalent to JPY 700 per actual hour taught, provided all outlined standards are met.
