Assistant Professor, Lecturer or Associate Professor

Responsibilities:
Teaching English-related courses of all departments (approximately six
classes per week).
* Apart from teaching there may be overseas program chaperone work,
curriculum development and other university work.
* There is a possibility that you will be asked to give lectures and seminars
in your field (these classes would count as part of the normal teaching load).

Conditions to apply:
(1) Native or near-native level of English
(2) Japanese language proficiency to perform oral
communication, read and write documents, and proctor
examinations in Japanese. No preference for nationality.
(3) Experience in teaching English, preferably at the university level
(certification in English language education such as TESOL is desirable)
(4) Master's degree or PhD in the humanities, such as linguistics,
literature, cultural studies or education; or in the social sciences, such as
economics, sociology, or political science
(5) Ability to give lectures and seminars in the above fields in English, in
addition to English language courses
(6) Passion for education, character and expertise appropriate for
university faculty
(7) Able to live in Nagano City or nearby area during employment

Method of selection:
Applicants will be screened in accordance with the University of Nagano's
regulations.
1st Selection: Examination of documents.
2nd Selection: Those applicants selected for an interview and teaching
demonstration will be invited starting from early October.
* Please understand that transportation costs for the interview are covered
by the applicant.
The result of the selection will be announced to all applicants by mid December.

Start date: April 1st, 2026

Employment type:
Regular employment (tenured, retirement is currently at 65 years).
Salary is decided according to the University of Nagano's salary
regulations.
Annual Salary: Assistant Professor: 5 million or higher, Lecturer: 6
million yen or higher, Associate Professor: 7 million yen or higher
（*Salary will be determined based on position, ability, experience, etc.）
・The above amount is an estimate.

Work hours:
38 hours and 45 minutes a week (7 hours and 45 minutes a day)
Holidays: Saturday, Sunday, major national holidays, and others
according to the university

3) Three representative publications (copies)
4) Essay about your aspirations for research, English education,
contribution to society, and administrative work at the university (within
1000 words in English or 2000 characters in Japanese)

Applicants who pass the first examination may be asked to provide
additional documents.
