Kamakura Jogakuin High School is looking to recruit an experienced, full-time native English speaking teacher to join their lively and progressive English department. This position is suited to a professionally minded instructor who has extensive classroom experience, a commitment to education and a desire to be part of a team whose aim is to provide students with the awareness, know-how and confidence required to thrive in a global environment.

The successful applicant will be responsible not only for teaching but also curriculum development, lesson planning, resource preparation, oral and written assessment for JHS and SHS courses, and related administrative duties. They will be expected to have the professional and personal skills necessary to meet the challenges of this high achieving academic environment, including the ability to work in a dedicated team to a demanding schedule. As lesson plans and materials are often developed collaboratively with three other full-time teachers, the post requires that applicants be enthusiastic and supportive team players.

Instructors are responsible for mainstream oral communication courses from Junior High School Year 1 to Senior High School Year 3, as well as Junior High School returnee courses. They teach independently (in English only) in classes which focus on developing all 4 skills, with an emphasis on themed-based, oral communication. Instructors are also involved in a wide range of extra-curricular responsibilities with the dual aim of not only preparing students for speech and essay contests, homestay programs, Eiken exams and an annual Model United Nations event, but also motivating students to become conscious of English as an essential and exciting global communication tool.

Priority will be given to applicants who have:
- innovative and collaborative approaches to instruction/curriculum development
- strong computer skills
- the ability to work closely within a dedicated team
- proven time management skills
- at least three years high school or relevant classroom experience
- a TEFL (Cert) qualification or an equivalent degree or teaching qualification

Job Description:
This position is a full-time contractual position teaching over 5 days from Monday to Friday. The one-year contract is renewable with mutual agreement (no term limit). There are around 15 contact hours per week in addition to extra-curricular workshops and activities. And teachers will be asked to work on weekends on occasion

Terms:
Kamakura Jogakuin offers a highly competitive salary based on qualifications and experience. A commutation allowance and benefits package is also provided.
