British Council Hourly Paid Teacher of English, Young Learners (part-time) (12/1)

Teach elementary, junior high or senior high students in Iidabashi. Sat 5.30pm to 8.30pm and/ or Sun 9.00am to 12.00pm and/ or Sun 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Start April 2020. 

 

Job details: 

We are recruiting for highly motivated, flexible and customer-oriented EFL teachers to teach elementary school students and/or junior high school students and/or senior high school students at our Iidabashi Teaching Centre from April 2020. You need to have an undergraduate degree (any discipline), be qualified to at least certificate level or preferably diploma level (i.e. CELTA or DELTA or equivalent) and have 2 or more years of teaching experience, gained through teaching relevant levels and age groups. Young Learner qualifications (e.g. TYLEC, YL extension to CELTA, PGCE or equivalent) are desirable.  

Classes for junior high school and senior high school students will be weekly on Saturday evenings from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. 

Classes for elementary school students will be weekly on Sunday mornings and/or afternoons (9.00am to 12.00pm and/or 1.30pm to 4.30pm).

Teachers will be asked to commit for at least one 15 week term.

These roles are only open to applicants who currently have permission to live and work in Japan. Please note that if your current working visa is under the ‘Other’ category (e.g. Professor, Instructor, Artist) you will need to apply for a new visa under the category (Engineer / Specialist in Humanities / International Services). 

JPY 4,400 per teaching hour for teachers with a CELTA 
JPY 4,900 per teaching hour for teachers with a DELTA

- Payment for preparation for lessons and marking is included in the hourly teaching rate above and is not paid for separately. 

Your salary is a gross salary and is subject to local taxes and statutory deductions for mandatory contribution to the Japanese Welfare Pension Insurance (Kosei Nenkin hoken), Health Insurance (Kenko hoken) and Unemployment Insurance (Koyo hoken) schemes under the laws and regulations of Japan from time to time in force. The British Council will make deductions from your salary at source in respect of tax and other sums due where appropriate.

If the laws and regulations of Japan require you to account directly for any tax or other sums that are due in respect of your salary, it is your responsibility to properly account for such tax and other sums to the appropriate authorities. The British Council will make no additional payments to you in respect of any liability for tax or other sums that you may have.

Any liability you may have for tax or other sums due in other jurisdictions will be your responsibility, save as set out in this contract. No additional payment will be made to you by the British Council in respect of such liabilities.
