Job details: 

- The British Council Japan is looking for a qualified and experienced teacher to teach 13.5 hours per week at a Japanese university in Chiba. You will teach from the start of October 2018 until early February 2019. This role is only open to applicants who have current permission to live and work in Japan. Previous experience teaching at a Japanese university is an essential requirement.

- Hourly-paid scale:

4,400 yen per teaching hour for teachers with a CELTA or equivalent
4,900 yen per teaching hour for teachers with a DELTA or equivalent

(Please note: payment for preparation for lessons and marking is included in the hourly teaching rate and is not paid separately.)

-The British Council provides a topic-based, modular, integrated skills course to university students with an emphasis on effective communication, discussion and presentation skills. Our classes in Chiba include students from a wide range of departments including horticulture, economics, and medical and pharmaceutical sciences. Our lesson topics provide an engaging, motivating and enjoyable context for language development and are relevant to students’ lives and interests.

- Contract begins on 25th September, with induction taking place between 25th and 28th September. Participation in induction will be paid at the hourly rate of JPY 2,600.

- Any additional meetings during term will be paid at the hourly rate of JPY 2,600. In addition you will be paid at the hourly rate of JPY 2,600 to participate in Learning and Performance Management meetings. All teachers are expected to fully participate in the British Council’s Learning and Performance Management cycle. We also ask that teachers check their British Council e-mail at least once every 48 hours during the working week and send a response to all messages that request one.

· Project-based teachers get up to five days’ paid leave per year which is to be taken at times that are agreed with your Line Manager. You will be expected to make yourself available for all scheduled teaching days and when possible to take paid leave outside university term dates to avoid operational issues.
-Project-completion bonus: You are entitled to a one-off taxable bonus equivalent to JPY 700 per actual hour taught following successful completion of this contract at the date specified above. This is dependent on positive feedback from students (via the designated feedback questionnaire) and stakeholders. This sum will be paid in the following month of the last day of this contract. No bonus will be paid in case you resign or are dismissed before the end of the employment period. · In addition travel costs (train tickets) are covered by the British Council.
